Jones, who finished sixth at this week’s ABC Championship, has used a broomstick for 14 years but told Bruce Young via his website at brendanjonesgolf.com the switch this week had been a positive.
"This was my first time as a professional, and the first time in 14 years, that I have used a short putter in a tournament," he told Young.
"(I’m) happy with where it’s heading. Just a little more practice with the short one should prove invaluable."
Jones is Australia’s most successful player on the Japan Tour with 13 victories in a little over a decade but has missed much of this season as he recovered from wrist surgery late last year.
However, with the Japan Tour’s most prestigious and lucrative events to be played over the next five weeks the return to form is welcome.
Jones was the only Australasian to finish in the top 20 this week, New Zealand’s Michael Hendry next best at T38.
Steven Conran and Adam Bland were a shot behind Hendry in a share of 41st while David Smail and Kurt Barnes missed the cut.
