The PGA Tour of Australasia congratulates John Senden on winning the Valspar Championship on the PGA TOUR.
Starting the final round two off the lead, Senden entered the famed snake pitt, the final three holes at Innisbrook Resort, tied in the lead with Americans Kevin Na and Scott Langley.
With a brilliant chip in birdie on the 16th hole and a long birdie putt on the 17th, Senden tamed the snake pitt and sealed his second PGA TOUR victory.
Making it safely in the clubhouse at 7-under, Senden watched on as Kevin Na failed to birdie the last to force a playoff ensuring his one shot win.
Senden last won on the PGA TOUR in 2006 at the John Deere Classic, the same year he won the Australian Open on his home Tour.
Aside from the US$1,026,000 winner’s cheque, with this win Senden has sealed an invitation to The Masters in April. He finished T35 at Augusta in 2013 which was his best performance on the famed layout.
He also earns starts in the WGC – Bridgestone Invitational, US PGA Championship and the 2015 Hyundai Tournament of Champions.
Senden becomes the second Australian to win on the PGA TOUR in 2014 after Jason Day won the WGC – Accenture Match Play Championship in February.
Australia is the only country outside of the United States to have a winner on the PGA TOUR in the 2013/2014 wrap around season.
