Jason Scrivener has had trouble finding his feet in his rookie year on the European Tour but a second top-15 in his last three starts has him heading in the right direction late in the season.
The talented West Australian finished T14
at the M2M Russian Open with four consecutive sub par rounds including his
second best round of the year, a 5-under-par 66, in the second round.
Scrivener has been playing decent golf in
recent weeks and was on track for his first top-10 of the year when entering
the final round in a share of sixth but despite shooting a 2-under-69 Sunday
went backwards in a low scoring event.
At 160th on the Race To Dubai
standings Scrivener has work to do to get inside the top-110 and retain his
playing privileges for 2016 but will take confidence from his recent play.
Scrivener hasn’t shot over par in any of
his last 14 rounds and if he can improve his putting statistics is a good
chance to keep his card.
Daniel Gaunt was next best behind Scrivener
in Russia in a share of 28th, a disappointing result after sharing
the first round lead.
Gaunt opened with a brilliant 6-under 65
and maintained the form with a 2-under-par 69 on Friday but a third round 74
proved fatal as he fell well down the leader board.
A final round of even par did little to
help his cause though at 104th on the Race to Dubai is a good chance to earn a
full card for 2016 if he can maintain form.
Kalem Richardson (T36), Ryan Lynch (T40)
and Anthony Summers (T62) were the other Australians to make the cut with Steve
Dartnall, Aaron Townsend, Jake Higginbottom, Sam Brazel and Lincoln Tighe all
missing the weekend.
