Ryan Ruffels has bounced back from a disappointing performance at last week’s Memorial Tournament with a runner-up finish on the PGA TOUR LatinoAmerica in the Dominican Republic.
Ruffels played some of the worst golf of his Professional career at Murfield Village, his opening round 81 featuring just one birdie, but showed great resilience to get back in the saddle at the Puerto Plato Open.
American Tee K Kelly ran away with the tournament after an extraordinary opening round 61 but Ruffels was best of the rest, closing with a 5-under 66 to grab outright second place.
After opening with scores of 68-68-68, Ruffels moved from fourth to second on Sunday while also moving to sixth on the Order of Merit.
The top five at the end of the year gain access to the Web.com Tour while the winner of the Order of Merit gains a full card.
Ruffels has played just four of the seven events so far but has finished second in each of his last two tournaments and is one of the standout players on the developmental circuit.
Troy Kennedy was the only other Australian in the field but couldn’t overcome an opening round of 77 and despite a second round 65 missed the cut.
