Reed withdraws from ISPS HANDA World Super 6 Perth due to illness


World Number 9 Patrick Reed has withdrawn from the ISPS HANDA World Super 6 Perth due to illness.

"PatrickReed was excited to participate in the unique tournament format which will feature 54 holes of stroke play followed by six hole match play in the fourth round however fell afoul of a respiratory infection.

At the advice of his medical team, Reed is unable to travel from the United States to Western Australia to compete.

“I am bitterly disappointed not to be competing in the ISPS HANDA World Super 6 Perth event,” said Reed.

“It was a tournament I was very excited to be playing in; the format had captured my imagination and I was looking forward to the match play component.

“Withdrawing from the event is not a decision I made lightly. I have done everything I can to make the trip possible, but my health and the advice of doctors is not something I can overlook.

“I wish all parties involved with the ISPS HANDA World Super 6 Perth the best of luck with the tournament.

“To my fans I extend my apologies, I hope that one day I will be able to come to Australia and compete.”

The ISPS HANDA World Super 6 Perth conveyed its best wishes to Reed, “Patrick Reed is an incredible competitor, we are disappointed not to be able to host him in Perth but recognise health must always come first,” said Stephen Ayles, Chief Commercial Officer of the PGA of Australia, which oversees the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia.

“We wish Patrick a speedy recovery and another prosperous season. While this is a disappointment we hope he will be able to come to Australia in the future, a player and entertainer of his calibre is very valued by the Australian public.”

A tournament tri-sanctioned by the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia, European Tour and Asian Tour, the ISPS HANDA World Super 6 Perth will be headlined by World Number 10 Alex Noren and features local favourite, amateur Curtis Luck, the reigning U.S. Amateur Champion.

“We are committed to delivering an exciting and unique tournament which will appeal to traditional and new golf fans,” added Ayles.

“We will make further player announcements in the coming days.”
