First year Professional Anthony Quayle was able to capitalize on his hot start yesterday to lead the field outright by two shots after the morning session.

The Queenslander shot 4-under 67 to finish 10 under par and now holds second outright.

“It was fun out there, it was a bit tougher out there today, trying to back up a good round with another good round is always tough, I’m pleased to shoot 67 and look forward to the weekend,” Quayle said

“I’ve had some decent performances as an amateur in these New Zealand events and my games been feeling good and I’m feeling pretty confident with it.”

Quayle said he and other groups on his side of the draw were able to take advantage of the perfect conditions in their opening two rounds to post some solid scores.

“It’s looking like we got the good side of the draw, we didn’t have this wind yesterday afternoon, a few of us were able to go out and post a pretty good number.

“Then coming out early I think the last four or five holes we played in the win, but that’s just luck of the draw I guess.”

Shooting the round of tournament so far this morning was Matthew Giles and Josh Younger, both checking in with 7-under 64.

It was a terrific turn of form for Giles who shot 71 in round one and now finds himself within reach of the leaders.

“It was a disappointing finish I just missed a short one there on the last to three putt and make bogey but I made a few good putts today and that was the main difference between yesterday’s round and today,” Giles said.

Younger also improved on his first round of 1-under 70 and is now 8-under par at the halfway mark.

“You’ve just got to keep it in play around here and give yourself some opportunities and I managed to drive the ball a lot better today and made a few through the middle which was nice,” Younger said.

“I gave myself a lot more chances today, yesterday I didn’t drive it great, couple of mistakes and a couple of three putts yesterday but today was pretty solid all round.”

The afternoon session is currently on course.
