The TX Civil and Logistics WA PGA Championship presents a
golden opportunity for Tour Professionals this week.

Being played in the Goldfields of Western Australia it’s only fitting that a gold nugget is up for grabs for anyone who is able to ace the par-3 13^th hole at Kalgoorlie Golf Course.

It’s a huge reward for anyone lucky enough to achieve the feat and the AU$50,000 worth of gold on offer is sure to entice a few players into taking on the 192m par-3.

"It’s actually a pin I wouldn’t usually go for but with $50,000 on offer I may as well have a crack at it," said Daniel Fox, who finished runner-up at the WA PGA Championship last year. 

"They usually stick the pin below the top tier on the green. I have been somewhat close in the past, maybe three or four feet from the pin."

"The hole actually sets up well for me. Usually the wind blows just off the right so I can hang a 5-iron out to the right and let it draw in on the pin."

"It’s a good pin for me so hopefully I get lucky this year and pot one."

But with a PGA Tour of Australasia victory, $120,000 prize purse and Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) points also on offer at the TX Civil and Logistics WA PGA Championship, not everyone will be going for gold.

Matt Millar, who has made his first trip out to Kalgoorlie this week, has his eyes firmly on a win in an effort to boost himself up the OWGR.

"The WA PGA is an event which has been around for a long time so it would be great to get my name on the trophy," said Millar.

"There are also a lot of other things that go along with a win like World Ranking points which are quite important to me at this point in time."

"My goal was to come to Western Australia and try to win both Tour events. I didn’t get it done at the WA Open; I don’t think I got any points at all. So it would be nice to get some this week."

"I was hoping that if I could play well in the two WA events and play in something else between now and the US PGA Championship maybe I could try and make my way into the top-100."

"It would be difficult now but obviously a win would go a long way in moving me up."

Fox, who finished runner-up here last year, is also a big believer in taking full advantage of the opportunities on offer at tournaments like the TX Civil and Logistics WA PGA Championship.

"If you are not guaranteed to get into the big Tour events then it’s really important to play this week," said Fox.

"If you get the win you become fully exempt for all the big PGA Tour of Australasia tournaments next year, that’s the benefit I got from winning the WA Open last year."

"So this week is a big deal, there is good prize money on offer, you can move up the Order of Merit a decent amount with a good finish.""If you’re not taking full advantage of these weeks it’s your own mistake."
