Indooroopilly’s own Ben Pisani and overnight joint leader Frazer Droop will be the players to catch heading into the final round of the Tony Hollands Funerals QLD PGA Trainee Championship.
After starting the third round three shots behind Droop and the defending champion Robert Hogan, Pisani made his claim for the Championship on moving day with a 3-under par 69 to join Droop at 5-under par heading into tomorrow’s final round.
Pisani and Droop lead the way by two shots from playing partner Hogan, while Marco Zirov moved into contention with a 1-under par 71, to sit three shots back.
Today’s round was a nice turnaround for Pisani, who had his struggles with the driver throughout yesterday’s second round.
“My driving still wasn’t great early in my round today. A few errant shots could have really done some damage if it wasn’t for my short game,” said Pisani.
“It’s great to be in this position, and what is even more promising was that I was able to find some of the form that I showed throughout the opening round on Monday.
“It’s not going to be easy tomorrow, but hopefully with the support of the members at Indooroopilly, I will find myself in a position to win tomorrow afternoon.”
The final round of the 2017 Tony Hollands Funerals QLD PGA Trainee Championship tees off at 10:15am on the Long Pocket Course, with the lead group of Ben Pisani, Frazer Droop and Robert Hogan teeing off at 11:27am.
