Steven Bowditch stole the limelight but Cameron Percy deserves plenty of accolades after a rain interrupted week at the Byron Nelson Championship.
While Bowditch impressed with a disciplined final round which eventually handed him a four shot victory Percy produced a much needed strong performance after a series of missed cuts.
Having graduated from the Web.com Tour last year Percy’s playing opportunities have been limited this season and, including this week, he has had only three starts since the Masters in April.
The 41-year-old missed the cut at the Houston Open the week prior to Augusta and suffered the same fate at the Zurich Classic and Wells Fargo tournaments since.
But despite previous poor form at the TPC Four Seasons course Percy showed plenty of character to produce some of his best golf of the season and post a T10 result, his best this year.
While still languishing at 158thon the FedEx Cup points list his play this week will have boosted his confidence and keeping his card for 2016 will be a realistic goal for Percy.
Seven of the 11 Australians who teed up at the Byron Nelson made the cut, recent Web.com winner Rod Pampling finishing next best after Bowditch and Percy at T22.
The two time Tour winner has rediscovered his game in recent months after a strong Australian summer and victory on the secondary tour a fortnight ago and is a likely graduate back to the PGA TOUR next year.
John Senden, Cameron Smith and Greg Chalmers all finished T46, a disappointing week for Senden after a good recent run of form.
For Chalmers and Smith a made cut is a positive but both need better results if they are to fulfill their goal of making it to the PGA TOUR in 2016.
Matt Jones was the last of the Australians to make the weekend but tumbled down the leaderboard with a final round 75 which saw him finish T64.
Aaron Baddeley, Marc Leishman, Geoff Ogilvy and Robert Allenby were the Australians who missed the cut.
