Dimitiros Papadatos has recorded his best result on the OneAsia tour with a tied third finish at the SK Telecom Open.
A bogey at the 71st hole took
the edge off a brilliant week for former New Zealand Open champion Dimi
Papadatos as he finished two shots behind the winner.
The 24-year-old has had difficulty finding his
feet since his victory in Queenstown in early 2014 but he showed plenty of
discipline and skill to finish top Australian this week.
Papadatos struggled to a 2-over 74 on
Thursday but turned things around with scores of 69-69-68 over the final three
rounds, his final round score was one of only nine sub 70 rounds for the day
and bettered by only one player.
The final result was closer than it appears
on paper with eventual winner Jinho Choi making birdie at the 18th
to break out of a tie with countryman Soomin Lee.
Since finishing T6 at the Oates Victorian
Open in February Papadatos had missed six cuts in seven starts prior to this
week, his only previous weekend appearance resulting in a T52 at the Holden NZ
PGA.
New Zealand’s Gareth Paddison, who finished
on the same total as Papadatos, was the only other Australasian inside the top-10
with Anthony Summers, Ryan Fox and David McKenzie all sharing 13th.
Jordan Zunic finished in a creditable T21
in his second consecutive start on OneAsia but his lack of tournament play was
reflected in his inconsistent scoring.
The 21-year-old posted 14 birdies for the
week but gave back 12 shots on his way to a 2-under total but should be
encouraged by the result and will undoubtedly be better for the experience.
Jamie Arnold and Steven Jeffress were next
best among the Australians at even par for the week and T32 with Michael Sim
finishing 1-over for the four rounds and T35.
David Bransdon, who finished in the top
five at this event last year, never got going for the week and finished T64 at
8-over the card.
Among those missing the cut were Jason
Norris, Paul Spargo, Ryan Lynch and Stephen Dartnall.
