Wade Ormsby and Jason Scrivener have assured their 2018 status in Europe after an arduous week at the Andalucia Masters in Spain.
Ormsby’s performance was particularly impressive, the South Australian producing weekend rounds of 67-70 at the difficult Valderrama layout to finish outright fifth and jump to 82nd on the Race to Dubai.
That move was critical as only the top-101 after this week’s event earn status from that list though Scrivener, too, will be a full member in 2018 thanks to a new category created this year.
The West Australian produced his best score of the week on Sunday, a 2-under 69, to jump 17 places up the standings to T27.
Like Ormsby, that result was crucial as it kept Scrivener inside the top-10 of a newly introduced membership category that runs in conjunction with the Race to Dubai.
With the introduction of the lucrative Rolex Series events in 2017, the Tour instigated an ‘Access List’ to take into account the performances of those members who may not qualify to play some of the biggest events.
The Access List counts all money earned outside the majors, WGC events and Rolex Series tournaments with the top-10 to be awarded full membership, Scrivener finishing well up on that list after this week’s tournament.
The Andalucia Masters Presented by the Sergio Garcia Foundation was the final full field event of the season and both Scrivener and Ormsby entered the week outside the top-101 on the Race to Dubai.
However, with their performances this week both are now assured the luxury of setting their 2018 schedule in advance.
The news wasn’t so good for veteran Richard Green who has played limited golf this year after losing full status at the end of 2016.
Needing a win to realistically have a chance to earn back his card, the 46-year-old fired rounds of 75-73 to miss the cut by two.
