Nine Australians who don’t normally play the European Tour get the chance to tee up in this week’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship thanks to their good play on the PGA Tour of Australasia.

The popular pro-am tournament, played on three of Scotland’s most highly regarded layouts in Kingsbarns, Carnoustie and the Old Course at St Andrews, extends invitations to players from around the world based on their performance on their home Tours.

Brody Ninyette, Jack Wilson, Ash Hall, Dimi Papadatos, Nick Cullen, David McKenzie, Matt Griffin, Jason Scrivener and Nathan Holman will all tee up this week courtesy of their play on the PGA Tour of Australasia.

They will join Euro Tour regulars Brett Rumford, Richard Green and Wade Ormsby but it is the non exempt nine who have most to play for this week.

A win guarantees a European Tour card while a high finish is likely to lead to more playing opportunities, vital for younger players such as Wilson, Papadatos and Ninyette.

The tournament is one of the most popular on the European Tour as it pairs Professionals with amateurs for all four days of competition and while the field attracts its share of celebrities and sports stars many players also invite family and friends to take part.

This year’s field includes four of the victorious European Ryder Cup team in Rory McIlroy, Martin Kaymer, Victor Dubuisson and Stephen Gallacher but also boasts film actors Bill Murray and Hugh Grant and sports icons Shane Warne and Ian Botham.

The top-60 Professionals plus the top-20 teams make the cut for the final two days with the highlight for all involved being the final round played at the home of golf, St Andrews.

Of the Australians who have teed up previously Richard Green’s T9 result in 2004 is the best with neither Rumford nor Ormsby posting a top-10 in multiple attempts.
