On Tour: South Pacific Open Championship

The PGA Tour of Australasia has arrived in New Caledonia for the South Pacific Open Championship to be played at Tina Golf Course from 10-13 September.

The PGA Tour of Australasia has arrived in New Caledonia for the South Pacific Open Championship to be played at Tina Golf Course from 10-13 September.

After Australia, New Zealand and Fiji, New Caledonia is the fourth country the PGA Tour of Australasia has visited in the 2014 season.

Being played at the Tina Golf Course, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this week, the course will have a slightly different feel for players and spectators with the two nine’s being swapped.

The course’s regular 9th hole now becomes the tournament 18th hole which will provide a better vantage point for spectators to watch the action unfold.

With 89 Professionals, two elite Australian amateurs, two elite New Zealand amateurs and 15 local amateurs in the field the title is wide for the taking.

Defending champion Andre Stolz will make a return to professional golf this week. Having been sidelined with a wrist injury this will be his first tournament of the year.

2013 runner-up Michael Wright will also play this week. Last year he fired a course record round of 9-under 62 as did first year Professional Theo Coroneo who is also teeing up this week.

Former champion Matt Griffin is a consistent performer at this tournament. Having won the title in 2011 he followed this with a runner-up finish in 2012 and a third place finish in 2013.

New Zealanders Gareth Paddison and Josh Geary have made the trip to New Caledonia for the first time.

Paddison comes into the week having already won on the PGA Tour of Australasia this season. He won the season opening Victorian PGA Championship.
