After delays ate up time and rain washed out Thursday’s play at the U.S. Open the majority of the Aussie contingent were finally able to begin their campaigns on Friday morning.

While Adam Scott had predicted that the Oakmont layout would become more receptive with the rain, the World Number 8 was unable to capitalise.

Scott’s scorecard featured two birdies and three bogeys in the first round, his 1-over 71 leaving him just outside the top-20 at the completion of the first 18 holes of the U.S. Open.

Joining him on the same number were Marc Leishman, Geoff Ogilvy and Cameron Smith who launched his career at this Major last year finishing T4 with Scott.

Playing alongside Scott, World Number 1 Jason Day struggled to a 6-over 76 which left him well down the leaderboard with plenty of work to do to make the cut.

The next best of the Aussies was Aron Price who, playing in the first group of the tournament, was able to complete his opening round on Thursday. Like Day, he also fired a 6-over 76.

Rounding out the Aussie contingent was Steven Bowditch who found the going tough at Oakmont. He returned a 14-over 84 in the first round.

After a quick turnaround, the Aussies are back on course for round two.

Adam Scott is even through 7 holes and T20.

Geoff Ogilvy is 3-over through the turn and has slipped to T55.

Cameron Smith is 4-over after 10 holes while Jason Day is 1-under after 7 holes. The pair are T64 on 5-over and battling to be around on the weekend.

Steven Bowditch is having a better second round so far but it still languishing down the tail end of the leaderboard and is 2-over after 11 holes.

Aron Price and Marc Leishman are yet to tee off their second rounds.
