The stage is set for an exciting final round shoot out
between PGA TOUR player Rhein Gibson and Rookie Professional Lucas Herbert.
Starting the final round a shot behind his more experienced
competitor, 20-year-old Herbert managed to chase down the lead, even holding it
himself midway through the tournament.
On track for a low round, Herbert became unstuck on the 13th
recording three consecutive bogeys on his way to shooting 2-under 70.
Gibson looked like he would be the solo leader heading into
the final round however a bogey to finish on the 18th will see him
share the honours with Herbert.
Gibson got off to a tough start with a double bogey on the
first after finding the water off the tee but he fought back to finish his
round on 1-under 71.
The leading pair will start the final round on 11-under the
card while a shot further back is Chris Wood who is aiming for a win to avoid a
trip to Qualifying School.
Rounding out the top-5 on the leaderboard on 9-under the
card is Max McCardle who fired a course record 8-under 64 today. He is joined
by Geoff Drakeford and Jarryd Felton who each had third rounds of 4-under the
card.
The other highlight of the day belonged to Troy Cox who
scored a hole-in-one on the 154m par-3 17th.
The final round of the NSW PGA Championship tees off
tomorrow at 7.50am with the final group of Rhein Gibson, Lucas Herbert and

Key Quotes:
Lucas Herbert, 66,
68, 70, 11-under, T1
"It was a good day, a little
disappointing to finish with four bogeys in the final six I think but a tough
day in the wind."
"I’m pretty
excited getting into the final group tomorrow it will be a good challenge. Playing
with Rhein who plays on the US Tour, it will be great to see how he handles it
and a good experience to learn from as well."
"I think
those first 12 holes, I’ll keep in the memory bank for tomorrow for confidence
because I felt like I really played well"
Rhein Gisbon, 66, 68,
71, 11-under, T1
"Disappointing finish over the last few holes but the wind
was tricky and it was hard to read. I’m in a good spot for tomorrow so it’s
good."
"I’ll tell you a low light, I doubled the first. I just hit
a shot down there and it leaked into the water. But I birdied my next three
holes so I was back under par."
"It’s cool to have my
PGA TOUR card and be playing here and be in contention. If they (his playing
partners) want to learn some stuff from me that’s great but at the end of the
day I want to win just as much as they do."
Chris Wood, 68, 68, 70,
10-under, 3rd
"I feel pretty good, it was a bit of a battle out there the
last 5-6 holes, I just hung in there and just tried to par my way in. I’m very
excited to be in this position and I look forward to tomorrow."
"I first noticed the wind on our 8th hole, that’s
when it started to get difficult, just before the turn. It was a great scoring
opportunity the first seven holes then the wind turned around and made it
tricky."
"It would be massive, it would be my first four round win on
Tour, and it would take a lot of pressure off the next few years, avoiding
Q-School."
Max McCardle, 69, 74,
64, 9-under, T4
"It’s always nice to have a low one
and it’s good to get a course record too so I’m very happy with today’s play."
"I got off
to a good start and made a few birdies early. Around here there are a lot of
good opportunities from holes five through to twelve."
"I guess
for me my biggest motivation is to win on tour, that’s my goal. So every
week I tee it up I’m trying to win and if you do win, you will climb the
rankings and that’s what I will be trying to do tomorrow."
