World Number 11 Alex Noren is relishing the opportunity to play a part in golf history at this week’s ISPS HANDA World Super 6 Perth, which will conclude with an exciting six-hole final-day shoot out in a European Tour first.

Noren, who is joined in the field by former Open Champion Louis Oosthuizen and the 2016 Turkish Airlines Open Champion Thorbjørn Olesen among others, is a big proponent of new formats and ideas to bring the game he loves to a new generation of sports fan.

Following Sunday’s announcement of the revolutionary short form GolfSixes event, this tournament at Lake Karrinyup Country Club in the Western Australian city of Perth will mark the beginning of an exciting wave of innovative format changes in the 2017 European Tour season.

This week, 54 holes of traditional stroke play across the first three days will be followed by an exciting knock-out format for Sunday’s final round, with all match play games to be played over six holes and possibly decided by a shoot-out hole – a purpose-built par three tee which plays to the original 18th green.

“I think it’s great that we try new things and I think it’s going to be exciting for the crowds and nice for the TV viewers too,” said Noren, a four-time winner on the European Tour last year.

“I think anything where the crowd experiences a new way for us to play the game is good. I love watching the X Games on TV and things like that. I guess if you’ve got a 90 yard hole as a play-off hole, it’s going to be a lot more intense than a usual 90 yard shot is. I think we should work out more ways to do this kind of thing.”

Curtis Luck, meanwhile, will be the big draw for the crowds this week as the reigning US Amateur Champion returns to his home city hoping to put on a performance to match his big reputation.

The 20 year old amateur has been impressing among his professional counter-parts, racking up a tied 23rd finish at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic despite a final round 74, and he is also looking forward to a special week on tour.

“I think the format is a great idea and a great concept,” he said. “I hope the crowd gets behind it and it should be a fantastic week.

“Lake Karrinyup is probably one of the best courses is Perth so it’s awesome to be back home and playing in front of a home crowd. I’m looking forward to the week.

“It’s been a great start to the year. I’ve managed to get into three European Tour events which has been awesome, a great experience leading into a very busy year. Playing in the Middle East was spectacular, like nothing I’ve done before so I’m really excited about this week.”
