James Nitties has run down overnight leader Matthew Millar to share victory in the Better Homes Port Macquarie Pro-Am.

""Many felt that after Millar’s course record equaling 8-under par 63 in the first round everyone was playing for second.

The final round would see many twist and turns with Millar’s overnight lead gone by the end of the front-9.

With three bogeys in a row before the turn Millar would find himself tied with James Nitties on 6-under par. A further shot behind with nine to play were Dale Brandt-Richards and Matthew Stieger on 5-under par.

With a strong wind blowing the back-9 was a real test. Nitties would hit the lead early on the back-9 when he eagled the par 5 12th hole. With a bogey late in his round he would be joined on top by Millar who fought back well with a gusty 1-under par on the back-9. Both players would finish on a 7-under par total of 135.

“Turning up today I thought we were all playing for second. Matthew’s been in great form with a win earlier in the week so I feel very fortunate to share the win with him,” Nitties said.

“I did get on a roll through the middle of the round with two birdies and an eagle which put me right in the picture. It’s great to have played well here on such a great golf course in one of the best pro-am events I’ve ever played.”

“Unfortunately my putter went cold today. I’m still really happy to play well and would like to thank everyone involved in the event,” Millar said.

In third was Matthew Stieger who shot consecutive 3-under par 68’s for a total of 6-under par 136.

Rounding out the top five were Dale Brandt-Richards with a total of 4 under par 138 and Mitchell Brown with 3 under par 139.

The Better Homes Port Macquarie Pro Am was voted NSW/ACT 36 hole Tournament of the Year in 2016 and continue to deliver an outstanding event.

“Without a doubt this is one of the premier events on the schedule and everyone involved should be very proud,” said Peter Welden NSW/ACT PGA Tournament Coordinator

The North Coast Swing will finish on Friday at the South West Rocks Pro-Am.
