The Coca-Cola Queensland PGA Championship leaderboard is packed but here is a quick look at the top contenders.
The final round of the Coca-Cola Queensland PGA Championship
has teed off under a blue sunny sky at City Golf Club in Toowoomba.
After three very challenging days, rampant with weather
delays, it is a welcome sight for the field that are all chasing the Charles
Bonham Trophy.
The leaderboard is packed but here is a quick look at the
top contenders:
Tim Hart (68, 67, 64): This is just Tim’s second year
competing on the PGA Tour of Australasia. Before joining the Tour, Tim
completed the first year of a PGA Traineeship where he won many events
including the Trainee’s biggest tournament, Futures Championship. Tim is a long
hitter which is highly suited to the City Golf Club layout.
Matthew Millar (65, 69, 65): From the ACT, Matthew is a Tour
veteran but is chasing his first victory today. At the end of the 2014 season
Matthew lost his card for the first time in 12 years but regained it at
Qualifying School in January. This has been the catalyst to a strong start to
the 2015 season for Matthew. He finished tied 6th at the Oates Vic
Open and 7th at the Mercedes-Benz Truck & Bus Victorian PGA
Championship.
Brad Kennedy (65, 66, 69): A two time winner on the Japan
Tour and former QLD PGA champion, Brad is the most experienced contender. He is
highly consistent; in fact he has made just one bogey in his first three
rounds! He has been in this position many times before; remains cool under
pressure and knows how to close out a win. Brad will be hard to go past today.
Ryan Fox (72, 64, 65): The New Zealander started the
tournament a firm favourite amongst the locals at City Golf Club. After opening
at 2-over the card Ryan has put together solid rounds to place himself firmly
in contention. Another big hitter, Ryan has a great track record at the Coca-Cola
Queensland PGA finishing runner-up last year. His laissez faire attitude is
enviable and will ensure he remains calm coming down the stretch when the
pressure is on.
Anthony Brown (68, 68, 65): This Tour regular often flies
under the radar however recently has started to make a name for himself.
Anthony broke through for his first victory on Tour at the Mazda NSW Open last
year and in his first two starts this season has finished just outside the
top-10. He starts today three shots off the lead but has won from behind
before. Armed with the knowledge he can
win Brown will be confident today.
Cameron Smith (69, 66, 66): Queensland young gun Cameron is
the future of Aussie golf. He has already established his name on the Asian
Tour and has had a number of starts on the PGA TOUR. Cameron jetted into
Toowoomba direct from the PGA TOUR and competes this week in the Coca-Cola
Queensland PGA Championship for the first time as a Professional. As an amateur
Cameron finished tied 4th in 2012 and 2013 and he believes this
course suits his game. It’s only a matter of time until Cameron wins his first
professional victory but it could come as soon as today.
