The inaugural Maroon Festival Amateur Golf Championship brings together one of Queensland’s most recognised sporting events, the Holden State of Origin, with the great game of golf.
Launched by Queensland Premier the Honourable Annastacia Palaszczuk in March, the Maroon Festival is delivered by the Queensland Rugby League and PGA of Australia designed to bring together the Sunshine State to celebrate everything Queensland.
As part of the celebration, the inaugural Maroon Festival Amateur Golf Championship will be played over 36 holes at popular golfing venues Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club and Indooroopilly Golf Club, culminating in a night to remember at game one of the 2017 Holden State of Origin series.
At a cost of $595 per person, entry to the Maroon Festival Amateur Golf Championship includes a ticket in Maroons Members section at game one of the Holden State of Origin series, entry to a pre-game function in Brisbane’s CBD, gift pack including official Holden State of Origin merchandise, two rounds of golf including motorised cart and range balls, lunch each day and more than $5,000 in prizes up for grabs in the Championship.
Broc Greenhalgh, State Manager of the QLD / NT Division of the PGA says he is excited about the vision and future of the event.
“The response has been overwhelming with the field rapidly filling and knowing that we will be offering those who participated each year a position in the subsequent year’s tournament, we recommend amateurs get in quick to avoid disappointment,” Greenhalgh said.
“The tournament allows us to combine two sports which many people love whether it be those who are coming from interstate to watch the game, or those looking forward to playing two of Queensland’s most recognised golf courses.”
Playing in the event will also be current and former NRL players as well as a number of other sporting personalities making it a memorable experience for all sporting enthusiasts.
