After a difficult first season on the Web.com Tour Bryden Macpherson returns to a more comfortable environment this week when he heads back to the PGA TOUR China for the Pingan Bank Open.
Macpherson was one of the standout performers on the China circuit in its first season in 2014 finishing ninth on the Order of Merit with six top-10 finishes in 10 starts.
Having played well to qualify for this year’s Web.com Tour, the former British Amateur champion had trouble finding his feet and was outside the top-100 money earners at season’s end.
With 11 cuts missed in 20 starts and a best finish of T27 it was less than Macpherson’s best golf but will have been an invaluable learning experience for a player of obvious talent.
It would be no surprise to see Macpherson contend this week on a smaller stage where he has had success before.
There are 20 Australasians teeing up this week and all eyes will be on the current Order of Merit leader Josh Geary of New Zealand who has already notched two wins in four starts for the season.
Geary earned his card at the Qualifying School early in the year year and has dominated the Tour, his earnings almost double the next best player on the money list.
PGA Tour China has been on a break since May but will play eight events between now and the end of the season in December.
There are two Australians presently in the top-10 on the Order of Merit, South Australia’s Peter Cooke is 5th and Sydney’s Rohan Blizard is 10th.
The top five earners at the end of the season get access to the Web.com Tour in the US next year.
