Jarrod Lyle may have been a marquee name but his clubs backed up the hype on Wednesday afternoon at the Fairway Exclusive Estate Sun City Pro-Am in Western Australia.
Lyle carded a bogey-free round of 8-under which set a new course record of 64 and captured the event with a three-shot margin over West Australian Brody Martin, Tom Power Horan from Victoria and Matt Steiger from New South Wales.
Lyle was his humble self at the end of the day, expressing his return to form as a nice surprise and suggesting that there is still plenty of good golf in him.
“It wasn’t a hard decision to turn away from the US Tour last year,” said Lyle who is in Western Australia for a few weeks Ladbrokes PGA Pro-Am events before making in his way to Kalgoorlie next week for the TX Civil & Logistics WA PGA Championship.
“I am enjoying being back in Australia and spending more time with family and friends and my biggest challenges are changing nappies these days,” joked Lyle who has been a major draw card in recent events around Perth.
“It’s been nice to tee it up in the pro-am’s of late which has less intensity than the main tour events obviously but we all still come out here to win."
Lyle joins the best in Australian golf for the annual Mitchell & Brown Spalding Park Open in Geraldton which begins on Friday morning and concludes Sunday afternoon.
Joining Lyle in Geraldton and next week in Kalgoorlie are local West Aussie gun’s Stephen Dartnall, Jarryd Felton and Rick Kulacz along with experienced Asian Tour player Terry Pilkidaris and Canberra’s Matt Millar.
