Lutterus captures Murray Bridge victory

South Australian Dave Lutterus has captured the inaugural Murray Bridge PGA Classic with a final round of 8-under 60; setting up a winning margin of seven strokes.

South Australian Dave Lutterus has captured the inaugural Murray Bridge PGA Classic with a final round of 8-under 60; setting up a winning margin of seven strokes.

""The former PGA TOUR member and current PGA TOUR China Professional made a slow start before reeling off an eagle on the par-5 12th hole and followed up with consecutive birdies on his way to a closing nine of 29.

"I hit the ball great all week and whenever I found myself in some trouble I managed to escape thanks to my short game," said Lutterus.

"It is a great course here and the event itself has been sensational, so a big thanks to all the staff and supporters."

The 30-year-old celebrates his 31st birthday on Monday and says it’s a nice early birthday present.

"I certainly couldn’t have asked for more coming here this week and it gives me a lot of confidence heading into the rest of the year," he added.

21-year-old rising star Jack Williams from South Australia rocketed up the leaderboard in the final round, carding nine birdies on his way to a bogey free round of 59.

The round equals the current course record and saw the likable local move into outright second behind Lutterus.

"I played great today and made some putts which always helps. I have never shot 59 and it obviously looks great on the scorecard," said Williams.

Another South Australian taking some of the spotlight during Saturday’s final round was Max McCardle who aced the 155-metre par-3 17th hole on his way to a 5-under 63 and a tie for 3rd.

Joining McCardle for third was fellow South Australian Chris Duke who played with Lutterus in the final group and said it was always hard to match what Dave was doing today.

"David played awesome and made the putts when he needed too, but credit must go to everyone at the club here for hosting such a great event," said Duke, who closed with a 2-under 66.

The $35,000 Murray Bridge PGA Classic was an initiative of the Rural City of Murray Bridge and associated sponsors in conjunction with the Murray Bridge Golf Club.

The Murray Bridge PGA Classic marks the finale of the Choice Hotels PGA Pro-Am series in South Australia with many players continuing across the Nullabour for the upcoming tournament in West Australian including the Nexus Risk TSA WA Open Championship.
