Peter Lonard has claimed his first victory on the Ladbrokes Legends Tour at the Ladbrokes Australian Golf Club Legends Pro-Am.
Lonard took home the lion’s share of the $42,500 in prize money after shooting an impressive 5-under 67, two shots clear of the rest of the field.
The Australian Golf Course holds many fond memories for Lonard who won the Centenary Australian Open back in 2004.
“I feel very lucky to a part of the Australian Golf Club. After I won the Australian Open the club extended an honorary membership which I’ve valued ever since," said Lonard.
Even though the wind was quite strong all day it didn’t seem to affect Lonard who only had one blemish on the card coming on the par 5 18th.
Two strokes back and tied runners up was Peter Woodward and Tim Elliott with 3-under 69. Elliott’s finish keeps him within striking distance of current Ladbrokes Legends Tour Order of Merit leader Brad Burns.
U.S. Champions Tour player David McKenzie would finish fourth with 2-under 70 and rounding out the top five was Peter Fowler and Adam Revai with 1-under 71.
The Ladbrokes Legends Tour moves to Cronulla Golf Club on Wednesday for the Sylvania BMW Legends Pro Am.
