South Australia is set to host the greats of Australian golf in the week ahead when the PGA of Australia Legends Tour reaches Adelaide.
Additional pressure will be on during the South Australian swing as it was recently announced that the leader of the Legends Tour Order of Merit on 9 April will receive a special invitation into the 2017 US Senior PGA Championship which will be played at Trump National in Washington DC in the last week of May and is an event which attracts some of the all time greats from around the world.
This year the PGA Legends Tour swing in South Australia will visit new venues including Victor Harbor Golf Club and Kadina Golf club which will be a unique test for the likes of Roger Davis and Mike Harwood who will have to adjust to the sand greens they will face in the northern regions of the state at Kadina.
PGA Life member and South Australian golfing icon Peter Ormsby will be hosting his annual Swanbury Penglase PGA Senior Classic at Adelaide Shores, the first event of the series.
The Vines Golf Club in the southern region of Adelaide will host the annual Air Diffusion Agencies Pro-Am on Monday 3 April before the Stirling Golf Club hosts the Innovative Pest Control Pro-Am on Tuesday 4 April which will see Tour stalwart Peter Fowler defend his title.
Local favourite Glen Joyner will be hoping to defend his Adelaide Shores title and also the South Australian Senior PGA Championship Crown when he returns to the iconic Blue Lake Public Golf Links in Mt Gambier where he won in 2016 in a playoff over Tim Elliott and Mike Harwood.
The Gordon Refrigeration South Australian Senior PGA at Blue Lake has been a fixture on the Australian Legends Tour for several years now and tournament director and host Bill Burley says it’s always a highlight for the city of Mt Gambier and the club to host the Tour and the players.
Burley’s event was recognized as the South Australian Legends event of 2016, a feat Burley hopes the event can once again repeat.
“Through the support of our sponsors and the City Council of Mount Gambier we are able to provide one of the most entertaining events all year and I am so proud of what we have build here,” said Burley.
The $25,000 championship will be the finale of the SA Legends circuit which will take place on Friday 7 April and conclude with the final round on Saturday 8 April.
