Steve Elkington and Peter Senior will have a final chance to play their way into the year’s first Champions Tour major when they tee up in this week’s Insperity Championship in Texas.
Next week’s Regions Tradition tournament is the first of five Majors for the over 50’s and neither Elkington nor Senior have yet met the criteria for entry.
However, a win this week would guarantee a start and would be a boon, particularly for Senior who has only limited status on the Tour this year.
The Queenslander has teed up at the Insperity every year since joining the tour in 2010 and has a best finish of T8 in 2011.
He has never missed the cut however that 2011 result is his only top-10 in five tries.
Elkington has played just once at this event for a T16 finish in 2013 and his form on the Tour this year has been indifferent.
He has entered only two events, withdrawing from the first and missing the cut in the second.
Senior’s 2015 has been better though with only three starts so far, and a best finish of T17, he needs to lift if he is to regain full status for 2016.
