Victorian Ryan Laird from Peninsula Kingswood Country Golf Club has finished a gruelling 36 hole final day battle to win the 2015 WA/NT PGA Trainee Championship presented by ADH Club Car.

"RyanIn a
showdown with Victorian Adam Burdett and locals John Martino and Brody Martin,
Laird sealed a two shot victory with back-to-back birdies to finish on 3-under
281.

The Tuart
Course at Wembley Golf Complex provided a difficult test for the record field
with a tight layout and wet and windy conditions on day one.

Laird had
the low round of the tournament, 5-under the card in round two which propelled
him to the lead and he never looked back.

"The
layout although short is challenging off the tee and the conditions seemed to
level the field," said Laird.

"Tee shot
placement was really important and this was a solid part of my game across both
days."

Burdett (1-under),
Martino (2-over) and Martin (4-over) all had chances in the final round to
snatch victory.

Laird’s final
round wasn’t without drama; he was seven over through 14 but managed to play
the final four holes in 2-under the card.

"That was
the most stressful round of my life," added Laird.

"I knew
Adam was playing well in the group in front and so I tried hard to remain
focussed and minimise mistakes."

"I was
really proud of how I hung in there and the way I finished."

This is
Laird’s biggest win to date and he now heads to NSW for the NSW/ACT Trainee
Championship hoping to achieve back-to-back victories.
