Ryde Parramatta Assistant Professional Nathan King has taken the lead after the second round of the 2014 PGA Professionals Championship after firing an even par 71 in blustery conditions.
The 2012 Champion fired three birdies and 13 pars to finish at one over for the tournament to set himself up for another crack at the title.
King who won the first PGA Professionals Championship staged at Hamilton Island in 2012, also ran second in 2013 and is now looking to turn 2014 into another win.
"l hit the ball very solid today considering the northerly breeze".
"Scrambling and course management are important on this layout and l thought l did both reasonable well given the putter seemed to be working," said King.
"l am obviously very happy with the first two rounds and the aim will be to stay patient on the front nine tomorrow and trying to get the job done on the back nine."
However, there are a number of players who are not going to let King have everything his own way.
Cromer Golf Club Head Professional Nicholas Robb and Matthew Docking sit just one shot behind King with local Anthony Johnson only two strokes off the lead.
"I have played here a fair bit over recent years though it is not the kind of course you can overpower." said Johnson.
With just two positions on offer to play at the Australian PGA Championship at the RACV Royal Pines resort in December, Johnson talked about it being a big focus for Thursday.
"I am proud to be from the Mackay and Whitsunday region and although I have a battle on my hands to catch Nathan, it is nice to give myself a chance to win my way to the Australian PGA Championship."
Thursdays final round begins at 7:45am with the leading group teeing off at 9.05am.
