It was a less than stellar week for the Australian contingent at the Humana challenge with Matt Jones the only one of the five who teed up in California to make the final round.
Stuart Appleby, Jarrod Lyle, StevenBowditch and Cameron Percy all had Sunday off after missing the cut, which cameafter 54 holes at the pro-am event.
A third round 64 saved Jones from the samefate in a low scoring tournament where 8-under the card was required to earn aspot in the final round.
Stuart Appleby was within two shots of themark but for Lyle, Bowditch and Percy over par first rounds all but sealedtheir fate early.
With three courses in the Humana rotationand the set-up for the week designed to accommodate the large number ofamateurs in the field the scoring is always among the hottest all season and anythingover par is disastrous.
For Percy and Bowditch the damage was donein the closing stages of round one, Percy with a triple bogey 8 on the finalhole at the Palmer course while Bowditch dropped three straight shots over thefinal three holes at La Quinta.
Matt Jones also struggled in round one withthe worst score of the five Australians, a 4-over 76 which left him with plentyto do.
A 5-under second round and aneight-birdie-no-bogey 64 in the third round saw him scrape into Sunday by asingle stroke and eventually finish in a share of 41st position.
