Jones looking to get back on track

Brendan Jones has nominated course management as the key to better results as he continues his comeback from wrist surgery at this week’s Dunlop Phoenix tournament in Japan.

""Jones, who missed most of the end of last year and much of the first half of 2014 after the surgery, has been streaky since his return in July and blames poor thinking for his recent trevails.

"I’m planning on making it a priority this week to improve my course management and my thinking on the course‏," Jones told Bruce Young on his website brendanjonesgolf.com.

"I know it’s there, it’s just a matter of being a little smarter. My putting isn’t allowing me to shoot consistent scores as I’m having really good days & not so good days."

Jones switched to the short putter three weeks ago after more than a decade of using the broomstick and has putted inconsistently since.

"I am not playing like I did before my injury," Jones told Young. "I’m not as consistent as I have been previously and I’ve been making a lot of uncharacteristic mistakes on the course.

"When I’ve been in contention I haven’t been thinking as clearly as I have in the past and it just hasn’t clicked for me."

Jones has had good results at the Dunlop Phoenix event with top five finishes in each of his last two starts there.

But he will have competition for top Australasian honours this week with the in form Brad Kennedy also having played well at this event previously.

Kennedy is the leading Australasian on the Japan Tour money list and finished T6 at this event in 2013.

Prior to a T30 result at last week’s Visa Taiheiyo Masters the two time Japan Tour winner had three consecutive top 10’s and will likely be in the mix again this week.

Also in the field this week are Scott Strange, Steve Conran, Kurt Barnes and New Zealand’s David Smail.
