Jones won this event in 2002, one of 13 wins in Japan which has made him Australia’s most successful player in that part of the world.

After undergoing wrist surgery in both 2013 and 2014, this year has been one of rebuilding for the 40-year-old whose form has shown gradual improvement as the year has gone on.

While a disappointing final round at the Japan Open cost him a top-20 finish, Jones has traditionally played well at this end of the season when the bulk of the Japan Tour’s most prestigious tournaments are played.

He will be one of five Australasians in the field this week, fellow veteran David Smail also trying to get a disappointing season back on track.

Smail, a five-time winner on the Tour, has just one top-10 result in 2015 but will be keen to turn that around with the big purses on offer in coming weeks.

Also teeing up this week are Kurt Barnes and rookies Matthew Griffin and Won Joon Lee.
