Despite an impressive history at the prestigious Riviera Golf Club it was a tough week for the Australian contingent at the Northern Trust Open.
Despite an impressive history at the prestigious Riviera Golf Club it was a tough week for the Australian contingent at the Northern Trust Open.
Former winners
Aaron Baddeley and Robert Allenby were among the five Australians to miss the
cut, Geoff Ogilvy and Matt Jones the only players to survive all four days.
After an
excellent opening round to sit inside the top-10 Geoff Ogilvy got going the
wrong way with a double bogey at his first hole of the second round, Riviera’s
famous short par 4 10th.
The hole
damaged plenty of scorecards over the course of the week including Steven
Bowditch who made two bogies on his way to missing the cut.
Jones finished
T14 courtesy of a final round 68 which moved him 21 places up the leader board.
The
3-under-par score was bettered by only four players on the day though Jones
started too far back to be a genuine threat.
Ogilvy also
moved the right direction with a 1-under-par effort Sunday and finished T49
after starting the round near the tail of the field.
Joining
Allenby and Baddeley with the weekend off were John Senden, Steven Bowditch and
Marc Leishman.
