Jeffress fights off jet lag for Wynnum Pro-Am win

Steven Jeffress has won the Bartons/BMD Wynnum Pro-Am with 6-under round of 64 in the final Ladbrokes Pro-Am Series event for 2019.

Jeffress, fresh off the plane from Indonesia and suffering jetlag, made six birdies and one eagle on his way to 64 in what could only be described as blustery conditions around the Wynnum layout.

“I flew in at 7am this morning to Sydney, arrived in Brisbane at 9am and had to rush to get to the course on time,” Jeffress said.

“I three-putted the 11th and missed two shot putts on 12 and 13 so to be honest, I could have gone lower.

“I have been playing really good golf recently and although I wasn’t able to get my Japanese Tour card a couple of weeks ago and didn’t finish off as well as I would have liked in Indonesia, it is the best I have ever hit my irons.”

Mark Beitz of Bartons was thrilled to take part in the final event for the season where a fantastic field including European Tour and PGA TOUR regulars Rod Pampling, Rhein Gibson and Jake McLeod teed it up.

“We are excited to have the pro’s play the Bartons/BMD Wynnum Pro-Am and we look forward to continuing our ongoing support of this great event,” Beitz said.

Michael Wright, Ben Clemenston and Sam Brazel finished one shot off the lead with scorecards of 5-under 65.

Brett Rankin will once again be crowned the Ladbrokes Pro-Am Series Order of Merit winner with a fifth place finish at Wynnum Golf Club.

The fight for the title was tight between Rankin and fellow Queenslander Tim Hart for the duration of the 2019 season but yet another consistent result from the 2019 NT PGA Champion was enough in the final event of the season.

This concludes the 2019 Ladbrokes Pro-Am Series. Congratulations to all of the 2019 winners.
