Globetrotting Marcus Fraser has taken his hot form to Miamiand finds himself in share of the lead at the WGC – Cadillac Championship.
Two weeks ago, Fraser notched up his first win in six yearswhen he claimed the European Tour’s Maybank Championship.
He returned home last week to play in the ISPS HANDA PerthInternational where a hot putter saw him finish tied 15th.
Despite these excellent results Fraser had still felt offwith his ball striking. These problems seemed to be far behind him as he fired6-under 66 on the challenging Blue Monster layout.
"I feel like I’m putting well and I’m starting to feelcomfortable with my golf swing again. It’s been a long time coming but I’m startingto feel pretty good," said Fraser who reeled off seven birdies and just onebogey, on his penultimate hole of the day.
"I had a lot of control over the ball. A couple of weakdrives, but other than that, I felt like I really gave myself a chance on justabout every hole, which obviously you need to do on this golf course."
Thanks to his strategic play, Fraser is now sitting tied atthe top of the WGC- Cadillac Championship leaderboard alongside American ScottPiercy.
"It’s obviously a great way to start, especially in a golftournament like this and on a golf course as strong as this," continued Fraser.
"I’m probably one of the shortest hitters here, so I have toplay the golf course fairly smart."
"I’ve obviously I’ve got a lot of confidence from today. Myprevious results at Doral haven’t been that great."
"It’s nice to get a good one early and hopefully build onthat over the next few days."
While Fraser’s win in Malaysia earned him a start this weekand changed his year completely, The Masters is never far from his mind. He isacutely aware that a good result this week could earn him a much coveted startat Augusta.
"Obviously before Malaysia, it wasn’t even a chance, sodefinitely my schedule has changed a hell of a lot just from that win," saidFraser.
"I’ve been lucky enough to get in this week, and the MatchPlay. I’m not far off the Masters, and hopefully a good week this week, I canget into the Masters."
"The US PGA, Akron, all these events have been added to my schedule from onegood week. It’s completely changed my year and I’m obviously very thankful forit and I’m going to enjoy it."
Coming to Doral fresh off his win at The Honda Classic, AdamScott is continuing his good play. He fired 4-under 68 today to be tied fourth.
Jason Day is the next best of the Aussies and the only otherto be at par or better. His first round 72 placing him in a share of 28th.
