Nathan Holman impressed plenty of judges in his rookie year on the Asian Tour last season and continued his good form last week finishing just outside the top 10 in the co-sanctioned Malaysian Open.
Holman and European Tour regular Wade Ormsby shared top
Australian honours finishing T11 at 8-under for the week at the Kuala Lumpur
GC.
Holman grabbed the spotlight in his second start as a
Professional in 2013 when he led through 36 holes of the Australian Masters and
has built on that start by keeping his card on the Asian Tour last year.
A top 10 finish at the Australian Open capped off a good
year and his 2105 debut suggests the 23-year-old is set for another strong
season.
Wade Ormsby will also be pleased with his week’s work after
struggling in the final round in each of his last two starts.
After consecutive Sunday 79’s in Dubai and Qatar Ormsby shot
an impressive 5-under 67 in Malaysia, his best round of the week, and will take
plenty of confidence into his next event.
Veteran rookie Scott Hend finished one shot behind Holman
and Ormsby in a share of 14th while Jake Higginbottom had a
disappointing Sunday to fall down the leader board.
The Sydney sider was in a share of 8th position
at the start of the day with rounds of 69-71-67 but got off to a bad start with
a bogey at the par-5 3rd.
One birdie and two further bogies later he made the turn at
2-over, a score he repeated over the final nine to post 76 and fall to T20.
Four other Australians made the cut, Marcus Fraser (T25), Terry
Pilkadaris and Andrew Dodt (T36) and Sam Brazel T64.
Missing the weekend were Unho Park, Scott Barr, Kiran Pratt,
Kalem Richardson, Adam Groom and Marcus Both.
