Holding down 60th position on the Order of Merit Jake Higginbottom will be looking for a big performance at this week’s Yeangder TPC tournament as he tries to secure his Asian Tour card for next season.
Only the top-60 earn automatic playing rights and with just six full field events remaining on the Asian Tour schedule there is some urgency to his situation.
Higginbottom is one of five Australians to make the journey to Chinese Taipei for this week’s tournament with fellow Asian Tour members Jason Norris, Marcus Both and Scott Barr in the field alongside tournament invitee Adam Blyth.
Norris has had a rough go of things since his emotional win at the Fiji International and after withdrawing last week due to injury will be keen to find some form.
The popular South Australian faces pressures of a different kind now he has won a significant event and it may take time to get comfortable with his new-found status in the game.
For Blyth the week is a good opportunity after missing his Asian Tour card at Q-School earlier in the year.
The reigning NSW Open champion has three top-10 finishes in his seven events to date on the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia though with his last event coming in August he will be keen to get some tournament golf under his belt.
Marcus Both and Scott Barr will both need to be at their best this week with 2017 being a difficult year for each.
Barr lost his full card last year and has teed up just seven times this year for a best result of T16.
Both has played one less event and presently sits outside the top-100 on the Order of Merit and in need of something special over the final stretch of tournaments.
