Only 2016 winners Nathan Holman and Scott Hend have qualified for the European Tour’s Race to Dubai Finals Series, both making their debut at this week’s Turkish Airlines Open.Hend was easily Australia’s best performed player in Europe for the season, the 42-year-old amassing five top-10 finishes and a win in his 26 starts for the year.
With €1,124,927 in earnings for the season and some significant purses still to play for, it has easily been the Queenslander’s most fruitful year as a Professional.
While now twice a European Tour winner, Hend is yet to win outside Asia and will be keen to erase that anomaly between now and the DP World Tour Championship in two weeks’ time.
For Holman, a year that started with such promise has proved a steep learning curve, the 24-year-old struggling to find any consistent form after his brilliant win at the Australian PGA Championship.
One of the country’s most promising talents, Holman will have learnt some valuable lessons in 2016 and while disappointed to finish 54th on the Race to Dubai standings will be a better player for the experience.
Missing 10 cuts in 21 events will not have helped his confidence however, with his talent for the game, that can be turned around in a single week.
Holman has the advantage of entering the lucrative Finals Series with little in the way of expectations and the opportunity to freewheel may be just the tonic needed to recapture his best form.
