Scott Hend and Marcus Fraser will be part
of history when they are among the elite 60 player field to contest the final
DP World Tour Championship in Dubai this week.
The Australian duo have earned their place
in the field by being in the top-60 on the season long Race to Dubai standings
but with the European Tour announcing a shake-up of their schedule for 2017 it
will be the last time the event is played as part of the Finals Series.
A new Rolex Series will be introduced next
year with a minimum of seven events offering purses of US$7million meaning the existing
Finals Series will be scrapped.
Hend makes his second appearance in Dubai
after his most successful season as a Professional in 2016.
A win in Thailand early in the year was the
second of his European Tour career and he added another on the Asian Tour at
the Queen’s Cup in June.
An opening round 77 proved too much to
overcome last year on his way to a T56 finish but he will be looking to improve
on that this week.
Fraser tees up for the fifth time though
has never really come to terms with the Earth course at the Jumeriah Estates.
The Victorian’s best finish was T21 in 2013
and he struggled with his game at last week’s Nedbank Challenge.
However, having won his first tournament in
six years at the Maybank Championship Malaysia in February he will be keen to
finish the season strong.
