Oliver Goss turned his 2016 Web.com Tour
season around in emphatic fashion with a top-15 finish at the Rust-Oleum
Championship.
The West Australian will be disappointed
with a final round 74 but there were many positives to take from a week where
he made just his fourth cut in 11 starts for the year.
After opening with scores of 69-68-70 Goss
went into Sunday’s final round in a share of third place and was in great shape
on the 10th tee at 2-under for the day but things went awry early on
the back nine.
Goss made a double bogey at the 10th
then another at the par-5 14th to fall out of contention, eventually
signing for a 74 to be six shots adrift of winner Max Homa.
Goss was the pick of the Australians in
Illinois finishing two shots better than Greg Chalmers who also fell down the
standings with a 2-over Sunday round.
Chalmers finished T27, two shots ahead of
Brett Drewitt who dropped from 29th to 27th on the money
list after a T33 finish.
Peter Lonard was the last of the
Australians to make the cut but slumped to a 5-over 77 on Sunday to be 3-over
for the week and 61st.
Bryden Macpherson, Steve Allan, Scott
Gardiner and Mathew Goggin all failed to qualify for the weekend.
