Saunders claims prestigious Roseville title

David Saunders has taken out the 2014 Roseville Legends Pro-Am following a tournament low round even-par 66 on Saturday’s final round.

Saunders overcame testing conditions on firm greens and increasing afternoon winds to chase down round one leader’s Peter Criss, Tomas Mezara and David Merriman.

A past champion of the event in 2012, Merriman finished in outright second place just one shot back of Saunders and one shot ahead of Mike Zilko who finished in solo third.

Saunders four-over-par total of (136) was well off a tournament record but enough to claim his first win since January and the second of the 2014 season.

"It was extremely tough out there today and even though I stumbled on the last hole with a double bogey I felt like it was a great round for me" said Saunders.

"The course was in great condition and the club did a wonderful job in hosting us all" he added.

The Roseville Gold Mashie and Pro-Am event is one of the most historic Pro-Am events in the country which combines a unique mix of lady and male amateurs making it one of the most enjoyable days on the Roseville golf club calendar.

The E-Z-GO Legends Tour continue on a rampant run through Sydney this week as players compete at Eastlake on Tuesday, Gordon on Thursday before closing the week at the Wayne Riley Hurstville Legends Pro-Am on Friday.
