Rhein Gibson’s upward trajectory has continued with his first Web.com Tour top-10 finish of the year at the Country Club de Bogota Championship.

On the back of a tie for 17th at the Bahamas little more than a week ago, Gibson made his move with a 64 in the second round and then backed it up with 69-70 on the weekend to finish tied for eighth, American Mark Anderson going wire-to-wire with a four-stroke victory.

The New South Welshman was tracking for a finish well inside the top five throughout the final round but a bogey at the par-4 13th and then back-to-back dropped shots to complete his round at 17 and 18 saw him fall three spots to just inside the top 10.

It was a move in the opposite direction for New Zealand’s Tim Wilkinson who produced three birdies in a bogey-free round of 68 to also finish tied for eighth.

Tied for 52nd in each of his first two starts to begin the season, Wilkinson also made a move on Friday with a 4-under 66 on the par 70 Pacos Course before a flawless final round moved him inside the top 10 for the first time this year.

Sydney’s Brett Drewitt moved up 15 places on the leaderboard on Sunday courtesy of an eagle at the par-5 final hole that saw him sign for a 2-under 69 and a tie for 42nd.

Kiwi Nick Voke finished tied for 69th in his Web.com Tour debut with Jamie Arnold two shots further back in 78th position.

Veterans Stuart Appleby and Steven Alker both failed to qualify for the weekend.
