The Web.com Tour’s top-25 is back within sight for Rhein Gibson after roaring to a top-five finish on the back of weekend rounds of 65-66 at the Rex Hospital Open in North Carolina.

With a best result of a tie for 37th in his past seven starts – including four missed cuts – Gibson opened the tournament at The Country Club at Wakefield Plantation with a 6-under 65 but lost momentum somewhat with an even par 71 at the halfway mark.

He picked it up again with seven birdies in a third round of 65 and rose to a tie for fourth with a 5-under final round to finish four shots behind winner Sebastian Cappelen, propelling Gibson up 15 places to 32nd on the moneylist and within reach again of the all-important top-25.

In his first tournament back from a wrist fracture Victorian Cameron Percy improved with every round he played, a 4-under 67 on Sunday moving him up 12 places on the leaderboard and into a tie for 17th, maintaining his position on the Order of Merit just outside the top-25.

Five birdies in the space of eight holes put Percy in position to push even higher but he was unable to pick up any further birdies on the run in, closing out his 72 holes with eight straight pars.

Brett Drewitt made an encouraging start to the tournament to be 8-under through 36 holes but struggled over the weekend to finish tied for 63rd, fellow Sydneysider Jamie Arnold one shot better for the week in a tie for 60th.

The PGA TOUR-Latino America tour went into match play mode this week with Harrison Endycott progressing all the way to the quarter-finals before bowing out at the Bupa Match Play in Playa del Carmen in Mexico.

Ryan Ruffels fell to Puerto Rican Edward Figueroa 5&4 in the first round of matches but Endycott had no such trouble against American Barrett Kelpin, advancing to the second round with a commanding 4&3 win.

Endycott was 1-down early in his second round match with American Scott Wolfes but fought back to be all square at the turn, going 1-up after winning the 11th hole and maintaining a narrow advantage to move into the final 16.

In that match he took an early lead against Tom Whitney but found himself 1-down with two holes to play, winning the final two holes to win 1-up and advance to the quarter-finals where he met Argentine Tommy Cocha.

The Sydneysider jumped out to lead 2-up through three holes but back-to-back birdies by Cocha levelled the match, the Argentine heading to the back nine 1-up.

He went 2-up with a birdie at the par-3 15th but again Endycottt showed tremendous fighting spirit, winning the 16th and 18th holes to square the match, Cocha ultimately advancing by winning the playoff hole.
