Mat Goggin and Rhein Gibson have both struggled for form in
2016 but will be pleased to return to the site of some previous good play at
this week’s Air Capital Classic in Kansas.
Goggin’s one stroke victory in 2011 is one of five career
Web.com Tour titles and he is desperately in need of a turnaround in from in
2016.
He has made just one cut in nine starts after withdrawing
from the first two tournaments of the year with an elbow injury but did show
signs of life last week despite missing the cut.
Gibson, too, is in need of a confidence boost as his rookie
season on the PGA TOUR seems destined to end early.
Having played consistently well on the secondary Tour last
year to earn his card, Gibson has had trouble finding his feet in the big
leagues with nine missed cuts in 16 starts.
His highest finish has been T52 but he is a better player
than that and his 2016 experience at the top level of the game will hold him in
good stead in future years.
Also teeing up in Kansas are Steve Allan, Bryden Macpherson,
Brett Drewitt, Peter Lonard and Oliver Goss.
All except Drewitt have struggled this year and will be
looking to post some good results in the second half of the season.
Drewitt has dropped to 32nd on the money list
from a high of 27th though still has a good chance to play his way
into the top-25 and earn a PGA TOUR card for next season.
