Fraser tees up for first time since February

Marcus Fraser rejoins the European Tour this week after almost nine months out of the game with a hand injury.

Marcus Fraser rejoins the European Tour this week after almost nine months out of the game with a hand injury.

The 36-year-old has been sidelined since the Dubai Desert
Classic while undergoing revolutionary blood spinning treatment for an ongoing
tendonitis issue in his left hand.

Fraser, a two time winner on the European Tour, will take
his place in the field alongside 15 other Australians in the Asian Tour
co-sanctioned event.

The Corowa native has a good record in the Honk Kong event
with three top 10’s in six starts, a best being outright third in 2012 to go
with a T7 in 2007 and 10th in 2010.

While Fraser will likely be using this week to ease his way
back into competitive golf several of the Australians in the field will be
looking to make the most of a rare opportunity.

With the co-sanctioning arrangement in place those who ply
their trade in Asia have the chance to earn immediate promotion to the European
Tour with a victory as well as earning vital world ranking points in the
stronger field.

Among those who must be considered a genuine chance to do
well this week is former Australian Amateur champion Cameron Smith who has been
near the top of the leader board in almost every event he has played the last
six weeks.

While the second year Professional has struggled to finish
tournaments strongly he has shown he has the game to mix it with the world’s
best and a maiden victory this week would be a life changer for him.

Other Asian Tour players this week include Phillipines Open
winner Marcus Both, Matt Griffin, Jake Higginbottom, Andrew Dodt, Adam Groom,
Matt Steiger, Sam Brazel, Unho Park, Scott Barr, Dimi Papadatos, Kieran Pratt
and Scott Hend.

Euro Tour regulars Brett Rumford and Wade Ormsby round out
the Australian challenge, Ormsby returning to the scene of a T8 finish last
year which kickstarted his best season in Europe to date.

Another high finish this week might be enough to sneak him
into the Race to Dubai final series for the top 65 earners which he has said
all year was his goal for 2014.

Rumford, who has struggled with his game all season, has
only played the event twice before for a missed cut in 2011 and  a T40 finish in 2012.
