Fox, Cullen, Gaunt hoping for big China swing

Europe’s secondary Challenge Tour plays the first of back to back events in China this week with Ryan Fox, Nick Cullen and Daniel Gaunt all looking for big performances as the season draws to a close.

""All three have made the journey for this week’s Hainan Open and next week’s Foshan Open which offers one of the bigger purses of the year.

Fox presently holds down third position on the season long Road to Oman rankings and will be desperate to climb into top spot and claim a full European playing card for 2017.

The New Zealander has enjoyed another superlative year on the secondary Tour notching a second career win and becoming the only player in the top 15 in earnings to have played less than 10 events.

Fox trails Road to Oman leader Jordan Smith by less than €40,000 with four events left to play.

For Cullen the primary goal over the next three weeks is to earn a berth in the season ending Grand Final reserved for the top 45 players on the Road to Oman standings.

Presently siting 51st it is an eminently achievable aim and while the talented left hander would dearly love to climb into the top 15 that is an ambitious hope, that would require at least one victory in the next three weeks.

Cullen is more than capable of getting across the line if he puts himself in position but if that doesn’t happen then a continuation of his recent consistent play will hold him in good stead with qualifying schools coming up in the months ahead.

For Daniel Gaunt, the third Australasian in this week’s field, a strong showing over the next three weeks is required to assure he has playing rights for 2017.

Gaunt currently sits 68th on the Road to Oman.
