Brett Drewitt and Jamie Arnold have torched the Thornblade Golf Club in the final round of the Web.com Tour’s BMW Charity Pro-Am to bolt up the leaderboard and into the top-10.
Both players signed for 9-under rounds of 62 Sunday, Drewitt leapfrogging 22 players to finish T6 while Arnold overtook 26 others to be T9.
The scoring is always low at the event in South Carolina with the course set up taking into account the presence of amateurs in the field all four days.
However, nobody went lower than Drewitt and Arnold Sunday, testament to the quality of play by the two Australians.
While moving up the leaderboard was good news for both Australians more important is the boost on the money list.
Drewitt is now projected to move into the top-25 while Arnold, who was languishing outside the top-70 before the week, is predicted to move to 57th.
The top-25 earners at the end of the year earn access to the PGA Tour and that is the goal for all players on the secondary circuit.
Steve Alker was the only other Australasian to make the cut in the tournament, the New Zealander finishing T36 after a final round of 2-under 69.
With three courses in play to accommodate the large pro-am field the cut comes after 54 holes, Curtis Luck missing by a shot after a disappointing final nine holes.
Part of a team which was also raising money for charity, the West Australian was going nicely in both events before a disastrous final nine holes Saturday.
Having comfortably claimed the charity match Luck was also on track to contend for the title when he stumbled with a 4-over 40 on his Saturday back-9.
The miscue saw him miss the 7-under cut by a shot, Mathew Goggin enduring similar frustration with a final hole bogey to also be one shot shy.
While the Tasmanian will be disappointed with that result he will take some confidence from the week after playing some good golf over the opening two rounds, his Friday 66 a highlight.
Cameron Davis, Rhein Gibson and New Zealand’s Tim Wilkinson were the other three Australasians in the field and all missed the cut by multiple shots.
