Rookie Professional Geoff Drakeford gets a chance to test his game on the European Tour’s secondary circuit when he make his Challenge Tour debut at the Swiss Challenge this week.
Drakeford, a former standout amateur, is in
the field courtesy of his play at last year’s Q-School and joins fellow rookie
Todd Sinnott and Challenge Tour regular Scott Arnold at the Golf Sempachersee
course.
The big hitting Victorian has performed
well in his first year as a Professional with a promising T2 at the Holden New
Zealand PGA Championship and a T15 finish at the BMW New Zealand Open.
A member of the 2014 Eisenhower Trophy team
Drakeford played his first event as a Professional at last year’s Emirates Australian
Open where he flirted with the lead through two rounds.
He was listed as an alternate for last
week’s Challenge Tour event but didn’t make the field and will be keen to put
up a good showing in his first outing.
Likewise Todd Sinnott will be looking to
make a better showing than his recent form where one poor round a week has
proved costly.
A contemporary of Drakeford’s and a fellow
Victorian the pair will likely benefit from the presence of each other this
week and if they play their best both could easily contend at this level.
Scott Arnold has also showed signs of good
form in recent weeks but is yet to string four good rounds together.
He has made the cut in all three events he
has played so far but, like Sinnott, has been let down by one bad round each
week.
However, with seven sub 70 scores in his 12
competitive rounds to date there is a lot to like about the way he’s playing
and a strong finish seems likely sooner than later.
