Reigning Australian Open champion Cameron Davis is a Web.com Tour winner, the 23-year-old taking out the Nashville Golf Open overnight and all but assuring a ticket to the 2019 PGA TOUR.

""Davis fired the equal best round of the day on Sunday, a 7-under 65 that saw him climb six places up the leaderboard and a claim one-shot victory over a group of three players.

The victory vaulted Davis 58 places up the money list standings and at 14th, it is all but guaranteed he will now have access to the PGA TOUR in 2019.

The top-25 automatically earn status with the top money winner gaining a full card.

From six shots behind at the start of the day Davis made a slow start at the Nashville Golf and Athletic Club with six straight pars before back-to-back birdies sent him to the turn 2-under.

But it was on the inward journey where he caught fire, five birdies between the 11th and 18th enough to grab the title in just his fifth Web.com Tour start.

Just as he did at The Australian Golf Club late last year, Davis posted the clubhouse target with contenders still on the course and was at the driving range preparing for a playoff when the victory was confirmed.

“It’s fantastic, I’ve been trending upwards over the last couple of weeks," an ecstatic Davis said after the round.

"I’ve gone from having no status to having enough status to play events and now gone from that to winning one.

“It’s been a pretty steep rise over the last month or so.”

He said he was pleased with his play under pressure as he holed several key putts over the closing holes.

“I was coming down the stretch thinking I need to take advantage of every opportunity I get and two birdies was just enough, and I was glad it was that way because I couldn’t have done too much more." added Davis.

“I had a bit of a poor putting day on the second round but the first, third and fourth rounds have all been good putting rounds and today I really I kept on holeing putts even when the pressure was a little bit on which is a big improvement for me.

“It’s nice to know I can get it done under pressure. There were nerves out there, I didn’t know the exact situation but I knew I was up there and I still kept rolling in some nice, decent putts which was nice.”

Rounds of 67-71-67-65 added up to 18-under for Davis, the best of the Australasians in the field by a considerable margin.

Brett Drewitt and Curtis Luck both finished T30 at 9-under while Rhein Gibson was a shot further back and T42.

Steve Alker was the last to make the cut, a 2-under tournament total good for a shared of 63rd.

Jamie Arnold missed the 1-under cut line by two shots while Camron Percy withdrew midway through the second round.
