Victorian professional Richard Cooney has won his first Ladbrokes Legends event of the year today at the Elgin Valley Beerwah Legends Pro-Am.
Cooney adapted best to the cool early morning conditions to card a 5-under par 67.
Unfortunately for the afternoon field, they couldn’t match Cooney’s morning score, with the best of the afternoon field being Tim Elliott and Allan Cooper with 2-under 70.
“It’s great to be back out playing. I didn’t really get to do the Pro-Am circuit earlier in my career, so I am really embracing the opportunity to play tournaments at the moment,” said Cooney.
“I didn’t get much of a chance to get out and play last year either due to an injury and after shoulder surgery, I didn’t really have that high of expectations when I arrived in Queensland a few weeks ago.
“Beerwah is a very good course and one I recommend any golf enthusiast to play when they visit the Sunshine Coast. I am happy to have won today and hopefully the form will continue over the final couple of weeks here in Queensland.”
The Ladbrokes Legends Tour now heads to metropolitan Brisbane with the Royal Queensland Cup teeing off on Friday.
