Some final round fireworks from Scott Hend saw the veteran Queenslander come within two shots of a third Asian Tour title for 2016 at the Shinhan Donghae Open in Korea.
Hend produced a final round 68 at the Bears Best Cheongna Golf Club, a double bogey at the par-3 12th ultimately proving the difference for the 43-year-old who leads the Tour’s Order of Merit.
Having started the final round six shots off the pace, Hend went to the turn in 2-under on a difficult scoring day and after a third birdie of the round at the 11th was well in the mix.
But disaster struck at the very next hole for the two-time European Tour winner with a double bogey five at the par-3 killing his momentum.
He got both shots back with consecutive birdies at 14 and 15 but it was too little too late as India’s Gaganjeet Bhullar claimed his sixth Asian Tour title.
The T4 finish for Hend earned him a cheque for US$49,140 and increased his lead over Marcus Fraser at the top of the earnings table to US$105,049.
Michael Wright was the next best of the Australians in Korea finishing T15 at 7-under for the week, Adam Groom the last of the Australians to qualify for the weekend and T54 at even par.
Kalem Richardson and Kevin Lee were the Australians to miss the weekend.
