Celebs and Pros ready for the Vic PGA


The PGA Tour of Australasia has arrived at Huntingdale Golf Club for the Mercedes-Benz Bus & Trucks Victorian PGA Championship.

The PGA Tour of Australasia has arrived at Huntingdale Golf Club for the Mercedes-Benz Bus & Trucks Victorian PGA Championship.

The tournament takes on a new feel in 2015 with Huntingdale hosting a Professional tournament for the first time since 2008 and amateurs joining the Professionals inside the ropes.

Being played in a similar format to the successful AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am a number of Australia’s most famous faces are teaming up with some of Australia’s leading Professionals.

Here are some of the top groups to watch:

Scott Strange & Sir Ian Botham teeing off at 7.11am from the 1st tee
Former England Cricket Captain Sir Ian Botham will play alongside Scott Strange. West Australian Strange is a two time champion on the European Tour and a two time champion on the Asian Tour. The pair also played together in the 2013 NZ PGA Championship at The Hills in Queenstown. It was a successful week for Scott Strange who finished runner-up to Michael Hendry after the pair played off for the title.

Steven Jeffress & Sam Newman teeing off at 8.50am from the 1st tee
Former Geelong Cats player and Channel 9 media identity Sam Newman will partner up with Steven Jeffress. Newman is a strong supporter of golf in Australia and can often be seen teeing it up in a PGA Tour of Australasia tournament pro-am. Jeffress had a career year in 2014 winning the inaugural Fiji International and finishing second on the Order of Merit. Next month Jeffress will compete in the WGC – Cadillac Championship.

Peter O’Malley & Shane Warne teeing off at 9.01am from the 1st tee
This pairing needs very little introduction with Peter O’Malley being one of Australia’s most loved golfers and Shane Warne one of the nation’s most loved cricketers. Long time mates O’Malley and Warne have teamed up at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship on the European Tour for many years making them the most experienced team in the field this week.

Won Joon Lee & Damien Oliver teeing off at 12pm from the 10th tee
Won Joon Lee burst onto the Aussie golf scene as a young Professional when he almost won the Australian Open in 2007. Since then he has competed on the Web.com Tour and last week made a return to the PGA Tour of Australasia where he finished inside the top-30 at the Oates Vic Open. Playing alongside Lee is Damien Oliver who during his horse racing career has won more than 1000 races.

Mitchell Brown & Brendan Fevola teeing off at 1.39pm from the 10th tee
Former NZ PGA champion Mitchell Brown comes into this week off an impressive performance at the Oates Vic Open, which included a course record 9-under second round. He will play with former AFL player Brendan Fevola

Adam Stephens & Allan Border teeing off at 12.22pm from the 10th tee
Young Professional Adam Stephens has a dream pairing this week; he will play alongside former Australian cricket captain Allan Border. Stephens is one of the rising stars on the PGA Tour of Australasia and has already notched up his first victory on Tour taking out the 2014 South Pacific Open Championship.

Other celebrities in the field include David Schwarz, Shura Taft, Damian Fleming, Simon Marshall, Daniel Harford, Rodney Hogg, Craig Kelly, Andy Maher and Todd Woodbridge.

Other leading Professional competing in the Mercedes-Benz Truck and Bus Victorian PGA Championship include Tour winners Peter Lonard, Mark Brown, Scott Arnold, Ryan Fox, Michael Hendry, Michael Sim and Michael Long.

The Mercedes-Benz Truck and Bus Victorian PGA Championship will be played under a new format based on the successful AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

The format will see 92 of the PGA’s past and future stars vying for the title and the Jack Harris Cup.

The tournament is proudly sponsored by Mercedes-Benz Truck and Bus and supported by SEN and Huntingdale Golf Club.

The Mercedes-Benz Truck and Bus Victorian PGA Championship will be played from Tuesday 10th – Friday 13th February 2015 at Huntingdale Golf Club.

Admission to this event is free.
